President Lee Myung-bak will deliver a public speech on Monday to present Seoul’s tough countermeasures against North Korea, which was accused of attacking a South Korean navy vessel in March, his office said Sunday.
“President Lee will present Seoul’s position on the attack and further plans, including bringing the case to the United Nations Security Council,” Lee Dong-kwan, senior secretary for public affairs at Cheong Wa Dae, told reporters.
“He will make it clear that the South will take firm action if the North conducts any provocations.”
Analysts said Lee is considering taking military action against North Korea’s provocative actions.
“He may mention North Korean leader Kim Jong-il in the speech, but it’s not yet decided,” said the official.
He added that President Lee will call for a cautious attitude toward the joint industrial complex near the inter-Korea border of Kaesong.
The complex houses more than 110 South Korean firms employing about 42,000 North Korean workers in the border town. Begun in 2004, it is considered the last remaining symbol of reconciliation between the divided states.
The presidential address comes after a multinational team of investigators announced that the South Korean patrol ship, Cheonan, was sunk by a torpedo attack from a North Korean submarine. Forty six sailors were killed in the worst naval tragedy since the 1950-53 Korean War.
Lee has said that the attack constitutes a violation of the U.N. Charter and the armistice agreement which ended the Korean War. He called for “systematic and resolute countermeasures against North Korea so that it cannot repeat this reckless provocation.”
The official added that detailed measures will be disclosed at a joint press conference by foreign, defense and unification ministers.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak announced Monday his country is suspending trade with North Korea and closing waters to the North’s ships after a report concluded North Korea sank a South Korean warship in March.
In the past, Lee said that the South had “endured attacks from North Korea only because we are looking for peace on the Korean peninsula. But now it’s going to be changed.”
In a nationally televised speech, Lee called on the North to apologize for the alleged attack and for the country to punish those responsible for carrying it out.
South Korean military officials on Thursday announced the results of an official investigation into the sinking of the ship, the Cheonan, which concluded that North Korea fired a torpedo that cut the vessel in half.

President Barack Obama has directed the U.S. military to coordinate with South Korea to “ensure readiness” and deter future aggression from North Korea, the White House said on Monday.
The United States gave strong backing to plans by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak to punish North Korea for sinking one of its naval ships, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.
The White House urged North Korea to apologize and change its behavior, he said.
“We endorse President Lee’s demand that North Korea immediately apologize and punish those responsible for the attack, and, most importantly, stop its belligerent and threatening behavior,” Gibbs said.
“U.S. support for South Korea’s defense is unequivocal, and the president has directed his military commanders to coordinate closely with their Republic of Korea counterparts to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression,” he said.
Obama and Lee have agreed to meet at the G20 summit in Canada next month, he said.
Late last week, a team of international investigators accused North Korea of torpedoing the Cheonan corvette in March, killing 46 sailors in one of the deadliest clashes between the two since the 1950-53 Korean War.
Lee said on Monday South Korea would bring the issue before the U.N., whose past sanctions have damaged the already ruined North Korean economy.
The United States still has about 28,000 troops in South Korea to provide military support.
The two Koreas, still technically at war, have more than 1 million troops near their border.

Is this the beginning of the endtimes wars? Revelation 9:16 and 16:12 speaks about 200 million soldiers in an army refered to as the KINGS OF THE EAST.
Wikipedia says that the PLA has some 3 million memmbers but this is not the real truth.
The real truth is 200 million soldiers.
Mao likesie told us so back in ’63 when he said he could foot 200 million soldiers.
One of the bigger conspiracy?
The fact that western defence doesnt tell the world what to expect.
Aussie defence is the greatest black comedy Australia has ever seen.
Aussie defence couldnt fight its way out of a wet paper bag in light of whats coming.
Criminal neglect of the highest order.

Wikipedia says the Peoples Liberation Army has about 3 million members? I dont think Im fantasising when I visualise vast bunkers filled with guns, ammo and vehicles just waiting for the ‘ghost army’ of 200 million to become flesh. The KINGS OF THE EAST army (Revelation 16:12) is plural (meaning confederacy). The Shanghai Co-operation Organisation also means confederacy.
3 million doesnt sound like a lot when they have a 1 billion population..must be a lie
I don’t doubt Gibo’s right. I forgot they have 1 billion. And they are hardcore communist still, to get a job in one of the eastern cities (outside of Hong Kong), it’s a hard struggle from birth to get into the best schools, joining the communist party, and working their way up in order to get one of those business jobs. I know some people that live there. It’s join the communist party or the person barely gets anywhere working wise in life. It’s a highly regimented society. Remember how regional leaders have to keep their GDP up or else face the consequences so they build huge empty cities. All in all what I’m saying is one word to grow that size of an army:
DRAFT
pray.
huge empty cities indeed..
I should add. As much as what is barreling down at us, no fear. I still believe peace wins out. It’s the only way to be human in the long run. Sustain your strength.
wise words..we stick with peace
they wouldnt make it to aussie shores. they will be nuked out of the water, or the sky….
we hope they would be metric…

Hi metric.
If America ever gets locked into a stalemate with China/Russia it may be that America will be forced into a situation where she cant use her nukes without starting global war.
Ive been collecting prophecies from the Christian churches of Australia for 21 years.
I think a day could come when Australia has to stand alone against asia, at least for a while.
I think Australias future is going to be like John Marsdens new film “Tomorrow, When The War Began”.

There are some good clips on the net.
