Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has warned of an “earthquake” if the West intervenes in his country.
In an interview with the UK’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper, Mr Assad said involvement risked transforming Syria into “another Afghanistan”.
His comments came after the UN secretary-general made a new call for the repression to end.
Activists said three people were killed on Saturday, when tanks shelled a historic district in the city of Homs.
The violence came a day after one of the bloodiest days of the seven-month-old uprising, during which 40 people died after Friday protests.
More than 3,000 people have died in the unrest since protests calling for the government of President Bashar al-Assad to step down broke out in March.
In the Sunday Telegraph interview, Mr Assad said Western countries “are going to ratchet up the pressure, definitely”.
“Syria is the hub now in this region. It is the faultline, and if you play with the ground you will cause an earthquake,” he is reported as telling the London-based newspaper.
“Any problem in Syria will burn the whole region. If the plan is to divide Syria, that is to divide the whole region.

The whole damn lot of them should be more concerned about an enevitable earthquake swallowing up the Middle East, where as you noted, there is a big fault line…in both their history of ancient pagan empires and fucked up religion and contemporary politics of today.
At one time, I thought Israel would attack Syria, Lebanon, in order to clear the way to Iran..Today, I wonder if it isn’t going to be the opposite. Syria may be cleared away, in order to attack Israel. So much dirty politics, evil tricks and murder… just to rebuild what will be ‘the new world” so the rich can own it, and the peasants can pay for it.
I thought the ‘earthquake’ euphemism was interesting. Maybe Syria has a haarp too, lol.
dthorn420, I don’t really see any difference at all in the “fucked up religion” in the Middle East and the” fucked up religion” called Catholicism or Christianity, who were also huge players in the paganism and empires of the ancient Middle East. The only difference I see is the crusaders took their ‘fucked up” religion all over the world and forced people to make a choice or die. Behind everything evil in this world, lies the liars…those who think they can universally control the world and end it when they feel fit.
earthquake usage “intrigued” me to
Point well taken, I limited the scope of my expose. There is an advertising slogan that may apply to religion and God’s given freedon of choice,,,that is, If you had a choice, would you chose to have a choice? Does’nt matter if it is the wrong or right choice, just a matter for the chooser and the soul. I thiink it might be more of a case of spirit.

P.S. Jeehad, or however you spell that godless concept. What all religions have in common…is HYPOCRISY and fucking over the same God.
Yes, all religions are hypocrites and no wonder…they are man-made institutions based on controlling the people by fear. They have elevated themselves to a god status.
Something important to know it that the Russians have a Naval base in Syria, giving them a foothold in the Mediterranean sea. The Russians would definitely like to protect their military interests in Syria.
yes they do..correct
