Pope Benedict to step down April 15 2012?

According to Italian daily newspaper “Libero”, Pope Benedict XVI is thinking about leaving the papacy next April, when he will turn 85.

There is one front page news story that will certainly not go unnoticed: that is, that the Pope is thinking about resigning during the Spring of 2012. Journalist Antonio Socci has confirmed the same in the Italian daily, Libero.

“For now,” Socci writes, “he is saying that this may be true (Joseph Ratzinger’s personal assumption), but I hope the story does not reach the news. But this rumor is circulating high up in the Vatican and therefore deserves close attention. The Pope has not rejected the possibility of his resignation when he turns 85 in April next year.”

Socci recalls that the assumption he will resign, without any hitches, was the same thing Ratzinger talked about in an interview in the book “Luce del mondo” (Light of the World), when, in response to a question by interviewer Peter Seewald, he said: “When a Pope arrives at a clear awareness that he no longer has the physical, mental, or psychological capacity to carry out the task that has been entrusted to him, then he has the right, and in some cases, even the duty to resign.” Furthermore, in another passage, Benedict XVI wondered if he would be able to “withstand it all, just from the physical point of view.”

Next Up is Peter the Roman.

  1. He will leave whenever Adolfo Nicolas Pachon {Superior General of the Society of Jesus{Hay~Zeus} tells him to. Puppets are only able to move when their puppeteers pull their strings.

  2. One of the Catholic prophesies is that “The Olive” pope will be the last pope of the Catholic church (meaning this guy…)… the next one may be the False Prophet or something not so cool may happen? Almost like Pandora’s Box for any knowledgeable Catholic with what happens to this guy…

  3. They have to retire him if they are staying true to the end of days storyline. The ‘final pope” false prophet – antichrist -, the 2 witness, and the banksters seem to be anxious as all hell to bring in their one world currency. So much to get done before Dec. 21, 2012. :)

Now, whether it is truly the end days, I’m not so sure, and truthfully, they can’t be so sure themselves, but they are trying awfully hard to make it appear so, albeit some things are bit ‘transparent’.

Who knows – in the end, “they” still lose :)

    • They would have to announce it soon, coronation to coincide with Olympics?

      • :) didn’t think about that, but very good!

        Something odd?

Universi Dominici Gregis is an Apostolic Constitution of the Catholic Church issued by Pope John Paul II on February 22, 1996. It superseded Pope Paul VI’s 1975 Apostolic Constitution, Romano Pontifici Eligendo.

He made changes as well to the election, from 2/3 majority vote, added a provision that provided for the election of a pope by an absolute majority in certain circumstances.

And then, on June 11, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI issued a Motu Proprio beginning with the words Constitutione Apostolica, subtitled De aliquibus mutationibus in normis de electione romani pontificis which reinstates the traditional norms for the vote required to elect the Pope. Unless changed by a future Pope, a two-thirds vote will be required to elect a new Pope regardless of the number of ballots it takes to elect a new Pope.

      • so it just goes on and on until 66%

  4. well I’m surprised, I didn’t think Nazipope would ever step down voluntarily.

  5. Maybe Israel will announce the rebuilding of the temple this year.

  6. isnt he supposed to be the ‘caretaker’ pope before the next, final one according to malachi?
