The World Bank has warned the planet is on track to warm by four degrees Celsius this century..where do they get their information?

The World Bank has warned the planet is on track to warm by four degrees Celsius this century – causing increasingly extreme heat waves, lower crop yields and rising sea levels – unless significant action is taken to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

In a major report released ahead of the year-end United Nations climate summit in Qatar, the bank says changes associated with four degrees of warming would have dramatic and devastating affects on all parts of the world, including Australia, but that the poor would be most vulnerable.

Scientists say global warming must be kept within two degrees of pre-industrial temperatures to give the world the best chance of avoiding the worst impacts of climate change.

The report – a snapshot of the most recent climate science prepared for the bank by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Climate Analytics – says global mean warming is now about 0.8 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

It says that if current promises by nations to curb emissions are met then it is most likely there will be more than three degrees warming. However, under that scenario it warns there is also a 20 per cent likelihood that four degrees of warming will occur by 2100.

All nations will suffer the effects of a warmer world, but it is the world’s poorest countries that will be hit hardest by food shortages, rising sea levels, cyclones and drought, the World Bank said in a report on climate change.

Under new World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, the global development lender has launched a more aggressive stance to integrate climate change into development.

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is a research institute specialising in the fields of global change, climate impact and sustainable development.

PIK scientist contribute to the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), also known as the world’s climate council, whose working group on the mitigation of climate change is coordinated by the institute’s deputy director and chief economist Ottmar Edenhofer.

PIK was founded in 1992 by its current director, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber. About 340 people work at the institute that is located on Potsdam’s historic Telegrafenberg. Researchers from the natural and social sciences analyze the earth system and develop strategies and solution pathways for a sustainable development.

Being one of the leading climate scientists worldwide, he provides advice to, for instance, the President of the European Union Commission, José Manuel Barroso. In 2007, he was appointed Chief Government Advisor on Climate and Related Issues during Germany’s EU Council Presidency and G8 Presidency. Schellnhuber also offers scientific insights to business leaders, as he is member of the Climate Change Advisory Board of Deutsche Bank and chair of the governing board of the European Institute of Technology’s Climate Knowledge and Innovation Communities (EIT Climate KIC).

He has qualifications in mathematics and physics—a Doctorate in Theoretical Physics from the University of Regensburg, which he completed in 1980.

He received the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2002 and was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2004.

Being a long-standing member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (which was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, Schellnhuber has been a coordinating lead author of the synthesis chapter of Working Group II of the IPCC’s Third Assessment Report. He warns of dire consequences of continued global warming.

there is a lot to get through here..to summarise..

the world bank..who has no climate scientists in its workplace..has decided its now an expert on everything..and have announced a 4 degrees rise by ..hmm..lets go with 2060 this time..why does the world bank have such an interest in these matters..the almighty dollar..of course..TAX TAX TAX..

so where do they get their information?..the same place the IMF and every other technocratic alphabet group does..the IPCC.. predominately from the potsdam institute of lies as i have shown above..founded by the scariest individual in the climate change game..Mr Schnellnhuber..check him out..he has great ideas for us..a 1 billion population..gulags for deniers..

their information comes from the groups who need the warming story to continue..if not they are out of a job..this is purely a scaremongering excercise in the lead up to the climate meeting in doha..timing..
