Jimmy SaVILE was UK’s most prolific paedophile
But the star used a cloak of showbiz eccentricity to mask his depraved secret life and the power of celebrity to control those he targeted to escape justice, the official police report into his sordid past revealed today.
His youngest victim was an eight-year-old boy and the oldest 47.
During his perverted reign he carried out 34 rapes on males and females and 126 indecent assaults.
His attacks happened in 28 police force areas.
He struck at the BBC where he worked, in hospitals and hospices, schools and on the road – making him Britain’s worst sexual offender.
Investigation chief Commander Peter Spindler said Savile had “groomed the nation”.
The report revealed he even molested a dying child at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1971.
And he was still carrying out his sick attacks at the age of 82 when he groped a schoolgirl on the final episode of Top of the Pops in 2006.
But his terrified victims were largely ignored or not taken seriously as it was their word against that of a household name with millions of fans.
So far 450 people have made allegations to the police and 214 offences have been identified.
Detective Superintendent David Gray of the Metropolitan Police, who compiled the report with the NSPCC, said: “The sheer scale and the severity of his offending is appalling.
“He spent every minute of every waking day thinking about it, whenever an opportunity came along he has taken it.
“He is programmed to think and act in that way. He only picked the most vulnerable, the ones least likely to speak out against him.”
Child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas, who fronted the ITV documentary that exposed Savile in October last year, fears the number of victims could double with the figures released yesterday “a mere drop in the ocean”.
He said: “For anybody who works in this area the sheer scale is quite shocking.
“When you deal with sex offenders they are quite specific in their targeting.
“What is different with Savile is that there’s no specific target in terms of ages or sexes. He ranged from male to female, children to adults. It’s truly shocking.”
NSPCC director of child protection advice and awareness, Peter Watt, added: “Savile was one of the most prolific sex offenders the NSPCC has ever dealt with.
“He cunningly built his life around trying to gain access to children and hid in plain sight behind a veil of eccentricity.
“The sheer scale of Savile’s abuse over six decades simply beggars belief. Every number represents a victim that will never get justice now he is dead.” The presenter even boasted to detectives who started to have suspicions about him in 2009 that he had friends in the senior ranks of West Yorkshire police who helped him cover-up allegations.
Scotland Yard’s Specialist Crime Investigations chief Mr Spindler said the report “paints a stark picture emphasising the tragic consequences of when vulnerability and power collide”.
He added: “Savile’s footprint was vast, predatory and opportunistic. He cannot face justice today but we hope the report gives some comfort to his hundreds of victims. They have been listened to and taken seriously.”
The report said the paedophile’s offending represents “a potential watershed”. It concluded that he was an “opportunistic individual who used his celebrity status as a powerful tool to coerce and control” his victims.
Savile’s earliest reported offence was in Manchester in 1955 when he was 29, the 37-page report, Giving Victims a Voice, revealed.
The paper said 50 offences happened on hospital or hospice premises, 33 in TV or radio studios and 14 in schools.
He struck at 13 NHS institutions, including Wheatfield’s Hospice in Leeds in where he allegedly attacked a schoolgirl visitor in 1977.
Other victims were said to have been targeted at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor and Ashworth high-security psychiatric hospitals.
Almost a fifth of his victims were boys. A total of 18 girls and 10 lads under the age of 10 were abused, with 23 girls and 15 boys aged 10 to 13.
The terminally ill boy he is accused of molesting was aged 11 or 12.
Savile’s final offence at the BBC was at the recording of the last Top Of The Pops in 2006, when he was accused of sexually touching a girl aged between 13 and 16 and making lewd comments.
this is a look inside the cesspit of child abuse and the elites who do it..
i worry they are making him the lightning rod and not going after the scores of others..the others who knew what he was doing..helped him with what he was doing and engaged with him in what he was doing..he had to be working for a ring..and he had protection from others..he was a mason..and a papal knight..he was a confidante of the royals in particular prince charles..this must be exposed from the top down..the corrupt police and others in positions of power must be exposed..its no good to just hammer this filth but not take down the remnants that are still among us.. because they ARE with us..hiding and lurking in the background..shitting their pants that their sordid acts may come to light..
this guy stopped working seriously in the late 70′s and early 80′s..where did he get all the money to live for the next 30 years and have all these houses he owned and cars he bought?..who was keeping this guy topped up with vast amounts of dollars? he always said he was untouchable..he knew it..
