In a bid to intimidate North Korea and draw attention to the US military’s capabilities, American B-52 bombers – which are capable of carrying out nuclear strikes – are practicing over South Korea.

The move is in response to rising tensions after North Korea conducted its third successful nuclear test last month. This month’s first B-52 flights occurred on March 8, and the aircraft are scheduled to fly over South Korea again today.

We’re drawing attention to the fact that we have extended deterrence capabilities that we believe are important to demonstrate in the wake of recent North Korean rhetoric,” US Pentagon press secretary George Little said in a public statement.

“We are in the midst right now of sending a very strong signal that we have a firm commitment to the alliance with our Republic of Korea allies,” Little added. “This is a stepped-up training effort to demonstrate our resolve to protect South Korea.”

Tensions in the Korean peninsula are the highest they have been since 2010, Bloomberg News reports. The B-52 bombers, which were initially built to carry nuclear weapons for deterrence missions during the Cold War, can serve as an intimidating factor. Aside from their nuclear capabilities, the aircraft are also capable of hauling air-to-ground missiles. With a firing range of about 1,864 miles, they could easily strike North Korea from a significant distance.

“Just having the B-52 near the Korean peninsula and pass through means that the US nuclear umbrella can be provided whenever necessary,” South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min Seok told reporters in Seoul.

Although the US regularly flies B-52s over South Korea during joint military exercises, the US is increasing the frequency of its flights in wake of the rising tensions. And the initiatives are starting to bother the North: on Tuesday, North Korea called the US a “wrecker of peace” and said that the drills are interfering with efforts to fix its struggling economy.

“A state of hypertensity has dawned upon these lands, facing war, not peace,” the Korean Central News Agency said in a statement made Tuesday.

  1. as if they need a plane. what? no stealth missiles? haha

  2. ROFL it won’t happen at all and listen to the mass of sheep falling for this. Typical Americans “We need to go invade North Korea” did it work with Vietnam? Has it worked in the middle east the last 10 years? When you look back at the war on Iraq, we are the real losers. Our soldiers have died and been sacrificed for nothing at all.

    • i find it difficult to have sympathy for people who volunteer to join child rape gangs and go and kill 100% innocent people in countries that have not done a damn thing to them.

mourn american deaths? hardly. good riddance to those that follow illegal orders, which is all of them. the rare exception would be the truly brave – soldiers like ehren watada – and all those namless heroes that frag, stab, and poison thier COs.

and, yes, i’m a coldhearted bitch who laughs while watching duhmerican soldiers get blown up by IEDs or sniped to death on youtube. as the saying goes, that’s entertainment. all the better if it’s an ex-family member of mine or someone i once knew. no excuses. you get what you deserve.

in 1959 and again in 1963, american forced saddam hussein, the maniacal dictator, into power in iraq – creating misery for the people there and obliterating any chances for democracy. they fed him and coddled him and aided him and armed him all the way to 1990 – creating misery there and obliterating any chance for democracy.

then in 1990 they used subhuman trash (aka US diplomat april glaspie) to fool him into invading kuwait. they responded by murdering 1.5 million iraqis, half of them chidren. besides the starvation of sanctions, they used radioactive uranium munitions which cause cancer and birth defects.

then in 2003 they started up a new round of atrocities and murdered another million iraqis while removing their best fucking friend, saddam hussein, from power.

it’s true that americans are losers in the sense that they are, simply, fucking losers. however that’s different from people who have “lost” something like a son … seeing as how americans are barely even human beings, why should anyone care if a fucking piece of spit on the sidewalk gets blown up by an IED… why should anyone care if a shitstain on the underwear of humanity gets rubbed out?

the people who have lost something are the ACTUAL HUMAN BEINGS from iraq and all the other countries that american troglidytes have been fucking with for centuries now.

  3. Back to that subject, just to put a link of a book worth going through:

    Tragedy and Hope -
Comforted me with my analysis that north korea is a US’ pawn

  4. Thanks for that link, brilliant.
Aiming at bringing troops next to russia and china? while DHS troops replace MPs and inputs fear in the core of the beast. Can’t wait for the Brics’ move. Dam the more i think about the usa’ triple 6 laboratory the more i think “survivors” will have great stories to say.

    • Technology transfers are real and lots of favourite enemies, like North Korea and Iran!

      • As in 1930′s with General Electrics setting up plants in deutschland, etc…
Best book i read dealing with tech transfers and war case is antony c.sutton’s ‘wall street and rise of hitler’.

      • I think I know the plot already. :)

      • i think it’s a. sutton … there’s also the great play by bertolt brecht called ‘the resistable rise or arturo ui’ telling the story of hitler’s rise to power – in the form of a fictional tale of a dockworker who tries to corner the cauliflower market… with the help of certain friends :)

      • Showing your arts pedigree now xxx :)

  5. Back to N.K.
Isn’t it convenient to send militaries/marines to the other side of Pacific while the us policy is to cut military troops and expenses?

Great way to keep the “trouble makers” away from the land.
