Australian Research Organization Settles Wi-Fi Patent Litigation

Australia’s scientific research organization has reached an out-of-court settlement with 23 technology companies that will now pay to license its wireless local area networking (WLAN) technology invented in the early 1990s.

The settlement is worth AU$220 million (US$ 229 million), said Australia’s Minister for Science and Research, Chris Evans, in a statement released on Sunday.

It marks the second major settlement for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), which reached an out-of-court deal in 2009 with 14 companies for AU$205 million over the same Wi-Fi technology. Those companies included HP, Microsoft, Intel, Dell, Netgear, Toshiba, 3Com, Nintendo, D-Link and Buffalo Technologies.

After failing to negotiate licensing deals with companies using the technology, CSIRO sued in 2005 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Three billion wireless devices use CSIRO’s patent, and it is expected that five billion devices will use the technology by 2013 when the patents expire, according to a statement from Nigel Poole, acting group executive of CSIRO’s Information Sciences Group. The technology is incorporated in the IEEE’s 802.11a and 802.11g standards.

CSIRO’s researchers were awarded a patent for the technology in January 1996, which covered wireless LAN, a peer-to-peer wireless LAN, a wireless transceiver as well as a method of transmitting data.

did you know the CSIRO invented it..allegedly?

“Three billion wireless devices use CSIRO’s patent”

and they only got 220 million for it..ripped off.. seriously..

  1. i hope that each and every member of csiro lives in torment for the rest of their pathetic days. that’s the life sentence you’ve imposed on me and other electrosensitives. i hope your children all die of brain cancer.

  2. Guess who’s hairy hand is behind it all:

    • of course. this technology didn’t suddenly become ubiquitous by accident. the fact is that 2.4GHz (the same frequency used in a microwave oven) and 5GHz radiation is messing with people in numerous ways.

it dampens the brains moral discernment centers – located right above and behind the ear (go figure***). it creates brain fog and slows down cognitive abilities. it also causes inflammation (which is the precursor to cancer). and, of course, it decreases fertility bigtime.

and people put these devices all over themselves – chests, heads, laps – voluntarily. they lines up at apple stores to buy the latest radiation spewers. people encourage their kids to master these poisonous devices, lest they “fall behind.”

5 billion devices by 2013? let’s think now… who would want to put a fertility and cognitive function dampener on the heads and laps of billions of people?

it’s bad enough that i have to convince people that electrosensitivity is real. it’s much harder to make people understand that this is a purposeful attack on the world population.

*** i’ve heard a lot of people say that it was sometime in the 90s that most people stopped caring about others. it’s been scientifically demonstrated that 1) empathy can be dampened via external means and 2) cell phone usage dampens empathy.

    • on the money friend..
