Snoop Dogg changes his name to Snoop

Snoop Dogg is tired of hip-hop.

The 40-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, Jr., believes that he is Bob Marley reincarnated and is embracing reggae instead of the culture of guns he once rapped about.

He has also renamed himself in the process, and now goes by Snoop Lion.

The artist said at a news conference on Monday in New York that he was ‘born again’ during a visit to Jamaica in February, and is ready to make music that his ‘kids and grandparents can listen to.’

The former gangster rapper is releasing a reggae album called Reincarnated in the fall.

He said that in Jamaica, he connected with Bob Marley’s spirit and is now ‘Bob Marley reincarnated.’

Marley’s son Rohan attended the conference and gave Snoop his blessing.

‘I feel like I’ve always been Rastafarian,’ Snoop said of the spiritual Jamaican movement.

  1. jah rastafari! lol

smart move on snoop’s part. how many 40+ year old successful rappers are there?

i watched the trailer for the documentary. it’s clear snoop is saying he doesnt want to promote “cripwalking” (as the rastas call it), we’ll have to see if he’s being straight up or if he goes back to it.

  2. p.s. he didnt say he’s marley reincarnated, only that he *felt* that way. he was born before bob died 🙂

  3. Time to dig out the cat nip!

  4. LOL

  5. This is beyond crazy, stupid and childish behavior. Clearly something is going on with him and he should seek help because forwarding the NWO order will only get you in HOT trouble spiritually. We should be praying for him.

    • I bet the lion didnt give up the ganga! 🙂

    • how is converting to rastafari crazy, stupid, or childish? look at drew barrymore declaring that her children will be raised in the sick, hateful, violent, disgusting jewish imposter religion? have rastas occupied the lands of others? waged crusades? waged jihad? hell, some rastas wont even kill animals for food!

please don’t tell me you would prefer that he convert to a religion which sees jesus as a non-black person. though he barely even existed, what little of the man did exist was black (in the british use of the term).

      • Tell you what… you my friend should follow snoop and get ready for your king then. Gather yourself a hand full of 10-14 year old little girls to dance for you, smoke some weed, wear a dress, and pretend that you are Bob Marley reincarnated and see what happens. You will be consider and loose canon too. And about Jesus Christ to whom which I am a child of, you can take your issue about whether he is white or black up with your Creator. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! P.S. when you meet your Creator, oh and some day you will, explain to Him your reason for denying His only begotten Son.

        • Thanks for your comments Jackie. Each to their own beliefs. If we all “looked” the same it would be a boring world. Peace.

      • first and foremost, smoking cannabis is a healthy, anti-carcinogenic thing to do. it also makes one smarter, contrary to the stereotype. it does *not* induce one to seduce children – that’s left for the imposter religions such as yours, as demonstrated by the historical facts.

it seems that you are very unfamiliar with who snoop is and was. he was a member of a violent drug gang, the Rollin’ 20 Crips. he went from that to embracing a religion which, unlike yours, has never gone to war against anyone, has never persecuted anyone, and which has always embraced positivity.

in your blind, dogmatic arrogance you are condemning this man for leaving behind a culture of violence and embracing a culture of peace and positivity. at the same time, this sunday you will go to your pro-war church, give money to the hierarchy who maybe molesters (protestants and jews and muslims do it too, not just catholic trash), and go home thinking that you’re in the right, you twist and torture the stories of ancient Africa.

when i die, only my influence will live on – the difference i have made or not made in my life. i don’t believe in rastafarianism any more than i would believe your childish religion. that makes my life far more precious than yours. go fight and die for your ridiculous god. go kill and torture for your jesus. you won’t see a single dreadlock by your side. you have made yourself a nothing by accepting the religion of a slave.

  6. apropos this thread…

snoop might get sued for not being rasta enough!

  7. Rastafari are monotheists, worshipping a singular God whom they call Jah. Jah is the term in the “K.J.V.” (King James Version of the Bible), Psalms 68. Rastas see Jah as being in the form of the Holy Trinity, that is, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Rastas say that Jah, in the form of the Holy Spirit (incarnate), lives within the human, and for this reason they often refer to themselves as “I and I”. Furthermore, “I and I” is used instead of “We”, and is used in this way to emphasize the equality between all people, in the belief that the Holy Spirit within all people makes them essentially one and the same………..and they smoke pot 🙂

only problem to me……seeing a living man as a savior that denies he is such…… is a poor route to take. look this up… more half assin people its crunch time…….do your homework or be fooled

Haile Selassie I (1892–1975) was the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. Rastas claim that he will lead the righteous into creating a perfect world, called “Zion”. Zion would be the ultimate paradise for Rastas.

    • thanks y2k..any thoughts xxx?

      • yup, that’s basic rasta dogma… only thing i would add is that “i and i” is also a way of linking oneself to the prophet, selassie “i” and “i”. and, yes, they are “zionists” in the abstract sense of the word – they believe in a deliverance to a promised land in ethiopia.

of course, very few real rastas adhere to the dogma – most realize that haile selassi is dead. they take the lessons learned and turn it into praxis.
