Bob Carr did the Bohemian Grove in 2012 after being invited by Kissinger

Bob Carr was thrilled when Henry Kissinger invited him to join a camping trip in the woods last year. And not just any old camping trip. It was part of the weirdest ritual in American elite politics, the Bohemian Grove festival held annually since 1872.

About 2700 of America’s rich and powerful camp under mighty Californian redwood trees in a forest north of San Francisco for the last two weeks of July. It’s been described as ”midsummer frolics of the titans of the military-industrial complex”.

In a famous 1989 account for Spy magazine, Philip Weiss wrote: ”You know you are inside the Bohemian Grove when you come down a trail in the woods and hear piano music from amid a group of tents and then round a bend to see a man with a beer in one hand and his penis in the other, urinating into the bushes.

”This is the most gloried-in ritual of the encampment, the freedom of powerful men to pee wherever they like.”

There are talks on all manner of topics, artistic performances and 7am gin fizzes. Cameras are banned. So are women.

Carr shared one of the rustic wood cabins with Stephen Bechtel, the 87-year-old co-owner of the Bechtel Corporation, a $30 billion-a-year construction and engineering behemoth.

Carr, steeped in American Civil War history, stepped out onto the balcony of his cabin one evening. He fancied himself to be in a scene from the Civil War era with fires burning, music playing and people cavorting, he said later.

Carr spent three days at Bohemian Grove. As socio-political tourism, it was a brilliant experience. But Carr would have been wiser to spend no days there. As diplomacy, it was foolish.

While Bohemian Grove is not exclusively a Republican crowd, it’s overwhelmingly one. Notoriously so. Bill Clinton described it as the event where ”all those rich Republicans go up and stand naked against redwood trees”.

News that the Australian foreign affairs minister was hobnobbing at Bohemian Grove reached Washington. The reaction in Hillary Clinton’s State Department?

”When we heard, no one said anything – it was one of those moments where everyone just goes real quiet,” a senior US official told me.

The reaction in the Obama administration was noisier a few days later when Carr emerged from the redwoods to blunder into the US presidential election.

The planned meeting in Sydney was to update the Australian Foreign Minister on Fiji’s progress towards democracy; since Carr was too busy in secret talks with his handlers at the controversial Bohemian Grove  as outlined in a posting in his own blog.

The irony of the unelected Bob Carr discussing Fiji’s democracy, meeting with a U.S Presidential contender, co-mingling with Henry Kissinger, Condoleeza Rice and other neo-conservative stalwarts of the same ilk is astonishing.

The question is worth asking -what was secretly discussed in Bohemian Grove, that involved Fiji, Pacific geopolitics and other world affairs, that is presently changing with break neck speed?

Bob Carr’s recent remarks on Radio Australia, dismissed any proposals for Australia to become a broker in the South China Sea dispute; may just have been policy skulduggery, handed down to him at Monte Rio, Sonoma County. Is Australia’s Foreign Policy formulated in the Bohemian Grove? Carr’s response to a blog comment in his blog is self explanatory, “I don’t write the rules. But have a job to do for Australia”.

“It’s been described as ”midsummer frolics of the titans of the military-industrial complex”.

indeed..

so bobby boy got parachuted into the FM role and then got invited to the murky woods to get told what he would be doing next..the bohemian grove is not a conspiracy..its factual..it happens every year and its men only..and only very powerful men are allowed..and its a nexus for events around the world..just what exactly did bob get told to do?
