Netanyahu “Asked Rabbi to allow giving David’s Tomb to Vatican”

A Knesset Member said Thursday that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef told him that the Prime Minister’s bureau contacted him and asked to grant halakhic permission for Israel to hand over the Tomb of David to the Vatican.

The startling news was revealed by the Knesset Member during a tour of the Tomb of David by four MKs – Yoni Chetboun of the Jewish Home, who initiated the tour, Moshe Feiglin (Likud-Beytenu), Nissim Ze’ev (Shas), and Meir Porush (United Torah Judaism – UTJ).

The MKs were unanimous in declaring that they intend to do everything within their power to forestall any attempt to hand over the Tomb to the Vatican. There are also reports that not just the Tomb, but the entire Mount Zion compound is up for transfer. The MKs made clear that the zone is under Israeli sovereignty and will remain so.

There have been reports, recently, of a secret negotiation channel between the Vatican and the Israeli government, regarding the Tomb – and especially its second floor, which the Vatican calls the “Room of the Last Supper” – and the Mount Zion compound.

Officially, this report was denied by the government, with Deputy Minister Ze’ev Elkin taking to the Knesset podium to state that it was untrue.

However, the government has decided to place the exclusive authority regarding the holy sites in the hands of the prime minister – fueling speculation that a secret deal is indeed in the works.

The Vatican’s attempts to gain a sovereign foothold on Mount Zion have been going on for year, but thus far unsuccessfully.

The visit to Israel by Pope Francis is less than a month away. This is a factor in the timing of the MKs’ tour of the compound. A representative of the Religions Ministry’s Department of Holy Sites was also present.

The MKs promised to pass a law making the Tomb of David an official holy site.

“For many years, the Vatican has been investing large sums in purchasing assets in Jerusalem, with the purpose of blurring the city’s Jewish character,” said Chetboun. “This trend must be blocked, and the Basic Law on Jerusalem, which forbids handing over sovereignty on parts of the city to foreign entities, must be enforced. Today’s tour is only the beginning of the struggle, and we will bring more MKs here. The Tomb of David is a cornerstone of the city’s Jewish history, we must safeguard it.”

  1. Maqam (Sanctuary) of the Prophet David
Also known as: Tomb of David

This complex is known in Arabic sources by the name of the Maqam (Sanctuary) of the Prophet David, although the Tomb of David is actually located on the eastern mountain slope in an area known today as David’s City.
According to Western, Christian accounts the upper hall of the complex known as ‘Alliyat Suhyun (Palace of Zion) is where the Last Supper was held, while the lower level is believed to be the place where Christ washed the feet of his disciples. Thus the complex is an important holy site for Muslims, Christians and Jews alike and the history of the site, as well as the exchange of control over it by the three aforementioned religions, reflects aspects of the deep differences in opinion that encircle it.
The development of the site began with a church known as the Small Church of God, but no sooner was it established in AD the 4th or 5th century, when another church known by the name of the Church of the Apostles was established as a memorial to the Last Supper. After that, the Small Church of God was enlarged and its name was changed to the Church of Zion, or the Mother of all Churches. In the wake of the Persian invasion of Jerusalem in AD 614, the Church of Zion was burned down and suffered great damage. In the AH 6th / AD 12th century, the Frankish Franciscans undertook the construction of a monastery on the eastern mountain slope believed to be the site of the Tomb of the Prophet David. They built a two-storey structure: the ground floor commemorating Christ washing the feet of his disciples, and the upper floor in memory of the Last Supper.
The Muslims also took an interest in the site, and during the Ayyubid period (AH 615–16 / AD 1219) they took control of the building, adding a on the ground floor in the vaulted hall dedicated to the Prophet David. The Muslims continued to allow Christians to visit the upper hall.
The Franciscans subsequently obtained some more ground on the eastern mountain slope of the Prophet David and erected a number of buildings under the aegis of the Mamluk Sultanate. At this point the Jewish community began to take an interest in the Tomb of David, developing an association with an unknown grave in the lower hall believed by the Jews to be the Tomb of the Prophet David. Thus a huge dissension grew up during the Mamluk period between a sect of the Jewish community and the Christian population. A number of Mamluk sultans tried to decide to which faith the site belonged. These differences were not limited to those residing in Jerusalem, but foreign powers also entered into the fray, making the Mamluk sultanate waver in its conclusive decision to the two opposing sides. In AH 930 / AD 1524, in order to bring the situation to a conclusion once and for all, Sultan Sulayman the Magnificent expelled the Franciscan Brotherhood from the site and transformed it into a mosque and an Islamic site. Ever since that time until the year 1948, when it came under Israeli control, the site remained in Muslim control and in the continual custody of the Dajani family.
The is a large architectural complex, composed of a number of buildings and courtyards, a large part of which are used presently as a Jewish religious school. The complex has three entrances, and contains three open courtyards and three mosques. The mosque erected in the lower level was transformed into a synagogue, while the second mosque is the hall which was formerly dedicated to the Last Supper. The third mosque is closed.
    How monument was dated:
The building is dated by an inscription on the entrance to the hall dedicated to the Last Supper, and by historical information according to the accounts of historians interested in Jerusalem. Mamluk documents that were published by the historian Ahmad Darraj in 1968 also lent credence to the date.;ISL;pa;Mon01;35;en

  2. Packer had just returned from Jerusalem when he had the stoush with Gyngel. Gyngel is jewish ….just sayin..

  3. I went there 2 years ago. We had a Catholic Palestinian tour guide. We were visiting the upper house. He made a special point of taking us to the tomb which was down the stairs and just around the corner. It is really no big deal to look at, at all, which is unusual for a holy site. Just a small separted prayer area for each sex. Anyway the tour guide made a point of telling us that “I want you to all look at this and remember because this is bullshit, this is not king davids tomb and they know it. They want this space so they, I assume he meant the Israeli government, can have control.

  4. Do you really think they were fighting in public over Packer leaving his last wife about 6 months ago, and over where a truck was parked? Bullshit, its deeper than that. The spin doctors were all over this before it even went public. Packer just arrived home form Jeruselam, Gyngell is a jew……Packer put his nose where he shouldn’t have.

  5. There have been growing incursions against the Al Aqsa mosque, even a plan to allow construction within 65 feet (20m) of it:
As well, there was a report that Israel plans to build a new temple near Al Aqsa:
There has even been open suggestion by israeli government officials and leaders that the Al Aqsa needs to be destroyed and replaced:

Maybe there is some planned concession to the Vatican preparatory to Israel destroying the Al Aqsa to gain the pope’s noninterference?

    • In regards to the Al Aqsa mosque. I went on a night tour through the tunnels underneath the western wall. There is a huge open area, a worksite in reality, where they are excavating under the umbrella of looking for artifacts. I said to tour guide, umm it looks like they are trying to destroy the foundations of the mosque from underneath. He said that is exactly what they are doing and that there is much tension and argument about it.
Also, I can’t remember where I read it but wasn’t there talk about St Peter’s chair being moved to the upper room or at least it visiting for a papal mass? I think there is some connection between all of these things.

      • wow that is even worse than I thought re the excavations!
I found this link regarding it that has a picture of part of it:
Link has a number of articles following that also refute Israeli claims to historical occupation.

      • i have heard claims like that..even putting salt damp into the structure..

“Israel Digs Grid of Tunnels Underneath Al-Aqsa Gate
Al-Aqsa Foundation for Heritage and Waqf stated, Thursday, according to WAFA, that Israeli authorities have almost completed grid of tunnels underneath Bab al-Mathara, one of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex gates.

In addtion, the Foundation has said that Israel has completed digging tunnels and excavations underneath Bab al-Mathara, also known as the Ablution Gate, connecting them with the other grid which runs underneath the western wall of the mosque.

These excavations, says the Foundation, are carried out in secrecy and under the pretence of “archeological excavation” with funds acquired through the radical settler organization of Ateret Cohanim, and have uncovered large vaulted halls soon to be open to the Israeli public.

“All the archeological findings date back to various successive Islamic periods, especially the Mamluk period; however, Israeli occupation authorities claim they date back to the Temple era,” said the Foundation.

Also of note, according to WAFA, is that the grid of tunnels and excavations run underneath the vicinity of the western border of Al-Aqsa mosque, an area known as Hamam al-‘Ayn, less than 50 meters in distance from the mosque, penetrating deep underneath Bab al-Mathara, located within the mosque.”

  6. I’m listening to an mp3 of Manly P. Hall (looking for some secrets to this Age, 🙂 )

    [audio src="" /]

    Economics in the 21st Century

I’m only on part A, but it certainly is descriptive of today. He speaks of the only solution to prevent the world from destroying itself, being a World Bank that would solve the unworkable problems of those who have much, and those who have little. He talks about the dishonesty throughout the system, especially the banks and governments.

Considering the amount of building taking place worldwide, the money borrowed against the people of the U.S. and other nations and it’s insurmountable debt, it certainly fits in with what he is saying.

He also says the World Bank ‘cannot’ be controlled by ANY nation or political group. It must be controlled by a ‘neutral’ party.

Before we can think about going to space, he says we must first fix the problems on earth, because they are paramount to everything.

There sure is a new space race being talked up, although I doubt it will be anything more than transferring more money to the military.

So, this talk of the Vatican and Israel gets more interesting.
It sure would fit, ‘the Universal’ Catholic Church / Pope who would control this World Bank? Is this why they are building up the world and the people are suffering this extreme austerity?

    part B is here

    Archive of Manly Hall’s mp3’s –

    • Oh, I forgot one more thing, he also speaks of usury, interest and making money on money….all of it ‘has’ to go! It’s an interesting audio.

    • “He also says the World Bank ‘cannot’ be controlled by ANY nation or political group. It must be controlled by a ‘neutral’ party.”

problem being it is controlled and and its not neutral..
