Elon Musk: We are “summoning the demon” with AI

There have already been several dire warnings from Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk in recent months regarding the perils of artificial intelligence, but this week he actually managed to raise the bar in terms of making AI seem scary.

First, according to Musk, AI was as dangerous as nuclear war. Now Musk is likening the possible battle between humans and computers in the future, termed by some as “the singularity,” as a struggle for the soul of mankind itself.

How so? By invoking the one thing even those with little interest in technology fear the most: demons!

In an hour-long interview for MIT, which held its Centennial Symposium last week, Musk opened himself up to the audience for questions. Most of the questions were about space travel, but one audience member asked Musk for his thoughts on artificial intelligence, and that’s when things got a bit spooky.

“I think we should be very careful about artificial intelligence,” said Musk, the expression on his face suddenly turning very serious. “If I were to guess like what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that. So we need to be very careful with the artificial intelligence. There should be some regulatory oversight maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish.”

Sounds reasonable. Prudent even. A generally conservative approach to a potential technological issue facing our world in the future. Wise words.

But then…

“With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon,” said Musk. “In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like, ‘Yeah, he’s sure he can control the demon.’ Doesn’t work out.”

Forget Tony Stark, the comic book character most often associated with Musk, it may be time to start thinking Doctor Strange. Pentagram? Really, Elon?

And lest you think Musk was just fooling around about his fear of the potential dangers of AI, when the next questioner asked him about telecommunications, he stumbled for a bit and admitted that he was still pondering the question of AI.

Sure, it’s just a colorful metaphor, but coming from such an accomplished technologist, those comments are pretty startling. Musk is scared. Really scared.

he said it..not me..

“”With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon,” said Musk. “In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like, ‘Yeah, he’s sure he can control the demon.’ Doesn’t work out.”

and hes right..

“So we need to be very careful with the artificial intelligence.”

uh huh..

“Musk is scared. Really scared.”

  1. If your computer attacks you just pull the plug or hit it with a hammer .
Its people with low intelligence we should run from .

  2. Hello Seeker and Charles and Maria.

The metaphysics of this needs to be taken seriously. Other-dimensional and/or non-physical entities and forces are real, or as “real” as anything else in this illusion we call reality.

That’s why the elites spend vast sums on things like the olympic games’ opening and closing ceremonies, which are dripping with esoteric and metaphysical symbolism. It’s also the reason for the interest the Zionist elite has in rebuilding the temple (really just a giant abattoir for animal sacrifices) in Jerusalem. They are actually trying to “call in” and manipulate these forces, but being idiots, they don’t really know that they’re playing with a box of matches in a gunpowder magazine. That’s why I won’t have anything to do with Hallowe’en.

The problem is that we (or most of “we”) just don’t believe it any more, although our elites certainly do. And the “reality” follows your beliefs, so that, for example, no amount of actual evidence will convince a non-believer that consciousness can and does exist independently from the body. In fact, it’s on record that such non-believers will actually refuse to even look at the evidence, which is quite abundant.

Getting back to Musk’s points, non-physical entities travel all over and through the internet and can readily occupy electronic equipment, just as they occupy humans. This occupying of electronic equipment is probably what’s behind the electronic entity called “Mr Computer” that appears to be run by the NSA, or by branches of the NSA. I’m quite convinced that Mr Computer generates quite a few of the blog trolls such as “Joshua” and “A fan of more discourse” who haunt and disable discussions at Judith Curry’s blog, among other blogs.

If you allow yourself to sit quietly with eyes closed, and if you start to treat your dreams seriously and give them some regard, you may begin to perceive these things, but they or it may not make much sense at first. You can’t do it with scientific methods and apparatus.

All the best to you all,

    Andrew Farquharson.

    • hi andrew..

great to hear from you again..i was very worried you had left us for good..

      very interesting comments as always..

“The problem is that we (or most of “we”) just don’t believe it any more, although our elites certainly do.”

and thats why it is important..because “they” do..even if one doesnt believe..if you are the fox you need to think like the hunter to outwit him..

“That’s why the elites spend vast sums on things like the olympic games’ opening and closing ceremonies, which are dripping with esoteric and metaphysical symbolism.”

i would include also in that certain music videos from certain performers..

    • Thanks for your insights! 🙂 Very valuable!

…Nobody believed in the nazi’s secret weapon…and then we had operation paperclip…Nobody believed in Hitler’s esoterical search, Shambala & alike and yet he spent lot energy on that.

If we don’t know something that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Maybe we are being “programmed” not to know just to not interfere…Sometimes I think that all those attacks on religion has as objective to neutralise the good forces in the battle with the bad ones (Zoroastrian believes http://realhistoryww.com/world_history/ancient/Misc/Elam/Zoroastrian_rel.htm)…

“…. that consciousness can and does exist independently from the body.”

Could you be more specific about that, please? Clues? Rupert Sheldrake&alike?

  3. Hello Seeker.

I did leave for a while, but you do run a very worthwhile enterprise, and thanks a lot for it.

    Best wishes,

    Andrew Farquharson.

  4. Scientists abandon AI after seeing the Matrix: Don’t Worry Be Happy, Or Else!

  5. Hello Maria.

About consciousness existing independently of the body…

There has long been abundant evidence of this, and from my point of view it mostly comes from either Near Death Experiences (NDEs) and other Out Of Body Experiences (OOBEs).

NDEs have been extensively covered in the Journal of Near Death Experiences, which might be paywalled or might just not be available anymore. However, I have downloaded dozens of articles from it when I used to have access via a university library, and if you have trouble locating it I could probably help you.

NDEs are routinely dismissed by most people as being caused by “the brain’s neural network shutting down” (or similar wording). This ignores the fundamental fact that NDEs often involve a developing narrative of varying complexity and length, something that “neural networks” (or whatever) wouldn’t be up to generating whilst in the process of “shutting down”. It seems clear that something like an NDE happens if the physical body is sufficiently traumatised.

Many NDEs involve the experiencer seeing and hearing things (and reporting them later) that they couldn’t possibly have known about since they were in seemingly dead state (or otherwise unconscious) at the time.

The body of evidence from NDEs alone is very impressive and leads to the conclusion, as one researcher put it, that it is more than highly probable that consciousness exists independently of the physical body.

Very curiously, there are NDEs where the after-death “staff” who are there to do the “meet and greet” are actually the wrong ones. For example, an Indian god tells his bungling staff to get someone else of the same name, not the guy who just turned up in the NDE state. Or the Christian lady in the NDE state who was greeted by Hindu types. I suppose that the agents of the matrix can stuff up just like anyone else.

But many NDEs are based in the culture of the experiencer.

    I hope that helps.

Have a splendid day, and all the best from here in this illusion.

    Andrew Farquharson.

  6. Hello Maria.

I used “Matrix” simply as a convenient shorthand for the multidimensional prison that we inhabit. The concept of such a prison (and it’s a very old concept) explains everything about history, biological evolution, the human condition, and anything else one could name.

Everything is set up to serve energy production for whatever or whoever uses the energy produced by humans when they are in a variety of emotional states.

Proof of this in a conventional sense is tricky. A lot of it comes from my personal experience, and that of others, and also from what I and others have seen and experienced (without prompting) in altered states of consciousness. A lot of people would dismiss this as “anecdotal evidence”, but if multitudes of anecdotes all point in the same direction, I feel that they are evidence.

    All the best to you.

    Andrew Farquharson.

    • “Everything is set up to serve energy production for whatever or whoever uses the energy produced by humans when they are in a variety of emotional states.”

Is this a symbiosis or is for humans detriment?
Is “God” part of the mystification?
What is the “energy production efficiency” of fear? and of love?

      thank you.

  7. “Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.”

  8. Hello all.

Yes, you do have to see (or experience it) for yourself. And you’re bound to experience it when you move to walk out of it.

The matrix, or the sphere, or the prison, or whatever you call it, acts to our detriment. It has to if it wishes to harvest the energy it needs from us. Its agents promote conflicts of all sorts and on all scales from the individual to the international. In any event, it is beginning to fall apart, as it must.

Fear and anxiety and envy and hatred and such states probably produce the most abundant levels of energy. The state that we usually call “love” can do it as well, but it depends on what anyone means when they use that inadequate word that is meant to cover a variety of emotional states. If “love” in this case means the sort of love-at-fist-sight thing of the “love” that often draws people to get married, then that would do it as well. But that’s another story.

All the best to one and all.

    Andrew Farquharson.

    • “Yes, you do have to see (or experience it) for yourself. And you’re bound to experience it when you move to walk out of it.”

I couldn’t agree more. Most of the time, people experience it for themselves during great times of trauma, tragedy, loss of trust or a loss of your ‘faith’, whether in this worldly system, or in everything you were told to believe in, and willingly did so without question, or just a loss of your own way of life – ex: your livelihood, your home, your sense of who you were or are and what you are supposed to be. It’s a time of deep questioning, anger, sadness, helplessness, and finally a feeling of empowerment in setting yourself ‘free’.

So, you pick yourself up, and slowly begin to walk away from it all, because your eyes are open now, and you see it all for what it really is.

People experience it during and after serious illness, when they begin to question, just what is this ‘life’ all about and why the hell are we here – because ‘this’ life, is just too hard most days and it’s becoming unsustainable for the ‘average’ person because this ‘life’ is meaningless in the roles set out for us. Our lives have been wasted working and striving for unimportant ‘things’ and those who use our energy feed off of the rest of us and never seem to be ‘full’.

I think it’s what it means to ‘wake up’. You go through stages during this period – questioning how you ended up where you are today in your particular situation, or learning how the world really works you begin to question who these self-proclaimed ones are that have been predetermining YOUR life.

You suddenly realize that you have always been a slave to a parasitic system, that never cared anything at all about YOU, but where their own next billion / next meal was coming from.

And then you know, the matrix is an interactive game, whereby if you stay in the game, the odds are against you, because ‘artificial intelligence’ is rigged.

It’s a manipulation of YOUR reality, because someone or some thing is using it’s / their own thought process, to create the illusion of ‘reality’.
It does indeed use fear, guilt, blame, anxiety and other emotions to sustain itself while it sucks the very life out of you, if you let it. It’s best to not feed it any emotions, yet that’s easier said than done, and IT knows it.

Some choose to stay in the game and work harder to ‘win’ ‘win’.

For others, trying to move out of the matrix is exhilarating some days, and frustrating most others, because we’ve turned our free will over to some hidden hand that is pulling the strings of our lives, and for now, we are truly imprisoned in a systemic game whose mathematical sum = zero.

      • >>And then you know, the matrix is an interactive game, whereby if you stay in the game, the odds are against you, because ‘artificial intelligence’ is rigged. ….

should you not play – how would you unplug? ..because the matrix is worldwide and there is no ‘unplay’ or ‘stop’ button

      • Thats a great post mate. Very well formulated.

    • Well said.

    • To Andrew, intriguedbyr and James:

and what if this “matrix” / “the obscure agents/entities” that want to harvest our energy are these ones?

I just saw it on this thread
https://seeker401.wordpress.com/2014/05/06/carl-bernstein-jewish-neocons-responsible-for-iraq-war/comment-page-1/#comment-107376 but to me it, perfectly fits the Matrix-explanation. We have proves all around us…Thinking otherwise is desinfo- & mind-contrlled behaviour, IMO)

  9. …Pity there is no button on the replies for “thanks” and “I like it”…:)…

  10. James Blundell said
“should you not play – how would you unplug? ..because the matrix is worldwide and there is no ‘unplay’ or ‘stop’ button”

You play it YOUR way, not theirs, because only you know what’s important to you and what will make YOUR life worthwhile. That’s where you put YOUR ENERGY.

Why Elon Musk is scared of artificial intelligence — and Terminators

    • Elon Musk — the futurist behind PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX — has been caught criticizing artificial intelligence again.

“The risk of something seriously dangerous happening is in the five year timeframe,” Musk wrote in a comment since deleted from the Web site Edge.org, but confirmed to Re/Code by his representatives. “10 years at most.”

The very future of Earth, Musk said, was at risk.

  16. http://www.crom.be/it/documenti/internati-in-internet
    (google translator)

“Rudolf Steiner said that” the thought is electricity “…

… But back to the Internet. The same process occurs with electromagnetic waves. All the mental energy you emit when you are in front of your screen is not lost. It meets the waves emitted by the computer and feeds. The electromagnetic circuits purchasing power and thus become channels of your thinking. Instead of picking up the ethereal waves (ie waves natural electric), your thinking navigates in electromagnetic waves. It is certainly the movement of thought that references the term “surfing the Internet.” More feed on the waves of the machine, the more we strengthen the network that becomes a limit for thought. Imagine the mental strength accumulated by millions of Internet users worldwide. This is not necessarily a qualitative force, but it is definitely a force quantitative. How to maintain a free and independent thought in the face of such a force?

While we are then attestatari internet and internet protesters, against each other, it is important to feed the network, which is indifferent to the thoughts of its users. Military, challenge and even inquire through the Internet is utterly unrealistic. We have often demonstrated, human thought is literally attacked by information technology. First, because the rays of the computer, and in particular those of the microprocessor, can disrupt the function of the pineal gland, which is the seat of consciousness. Second, because the reflectivity is reduced by the machine. Rather than building a reasoning by association of ideas (active movement), the user suffers a reflection preconceived through the links that lead from one page to another, developing a passive thought, said “lunar”. This passivity makes it increasingly vulnerable to electromagnetic waves described above. “
