Google wants to hold elections via its own online voting system.

In a patent filed to American authorities, the Silicon Valley tech-firm indicated its new in-built voting feature could be used for “polls, elections, contests, marketing and the like”.

While the overall example Google used in the patent application would be for an entertainment poll, experts have said it is not unforeseeable that we could use a voting system the company developed to vote in elections.

Google sought to build a “voting user interface” and could only become available to people “provided a user who has been authenticated” was logging on.

The patent‘s title was: “Social voting-based campaigns in search”, and was approved and awarded to Google earlier this week.

It also opened the possibility of another revenue stream for Google, that would be to pay companies to do social research for them in the guise of light-hearted polls.

Patrick Moorhead, an analyst with Moor Insights & Strategy, told Computer World that the online election technology would set up Google for a range of online campaigns.

“I think it’s set up for both,” he said.

“Once we have more secure online identity, I think someday we will be able to vote online for president. To do this, we need hardened, multi-factor authentication, but we’ll get there.”

He said voting online might encourage more people to vote.

Like the idea of using Google to vote online for the best airline, steamed dumpling or health app?

What about using Google to vote for governor or president? That seems to be Google’s plan.

The search giant received a U.S. patent for a voting user interface (VUI). The interface would appear along with search results and would allow the user to vote for one or more contestants competing in a campaign.

The patent application was filed on Oct. 30, 2013, and the patent was awarded to Google on Tuesday.

What does the company plan to do with the technology? Google did not respond to a request for comment.

Patrick Moorhead, an analyst with Moor Insights & Strategy, said the new online election technology would set up Google to handle both fun campaigns and serious political campaigns.

“I think it’s set up for both,” he told Computerworld. “Once we have more secure online identity, I think someday we will be able to vote online for president. To do this, we need hardened, multifactor authentication, but we’ll get there.”

Being able to vote online – from home or the local coffee shop – might get more people to vote.

“I believe people would prefer voting online,” Moorhead said. “Who likes to wait in lines and deal with traffic and snow?”

  1. Funding and voting for politicians make us complicit in their improper and/or offensive actions. The U.S. Electorate Has Been Tricked Into Voting For Criminally Insane Psychopaths http://stateofthenation2012.com/?p=23588

John F. Kennedy Set The Bar Very High.

There are only TWO directions a US Presidential candidate can take toward a successful GOP nomination. Before those directions are delineated, it’s very important to first understand the following conditions and qualifications that ‘every’ president after John F. Kennedy was forced to meet and comply with–without exception.

First, that every serious candidate, from both of the main political parties, are compelled to sign a contract not to prosecute the war criminal U.S. presidents who have served before them. This stipulation is both non-negotiable and binding throughout their term, should they be elected. Every U.S. President is actually recruited for their ability to sell American warmongering the world over. This type of salesmanship is, BY FAR, the single most important trait that a presidential nominee can possess. How will any of them respond? http://themillenniumreport.com/2015/10/donald-trump-is-in-serious-trouble

  2. What a joke this would be, and I assume there would be HUGE dollar amounts tied into it for Google, like Chase gets by handling the unemployment / food stamp ‘debit cards’.

Google is a GOVERNMENT CONTRACTOR, my goodness, how much money does this government have that they need to LAUNDER SO MUCH of it!!!

  3. In other words, Jewgle wants to more easily rig elections.
