A second case of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been confirmed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

This follows a previous outbreak of 17 other suspected cases in the nation.

Officials are trying to locate 125 people who are believed to be linked to cases identified in the remote northeastern province of Bas-Uele in Congo.

Three people have died so far in the 19 suspected and confirmed cases, WHO’s Congo spokesman Eugene Kabambi said.

The latest outbreak comes one year after the end of the epidemic which killed more than 11,000 people across West Africa.

A staggering 300,000 emergency doses of an Ebola vaccine, developed by Merck, could be made available in case of a large-scale outbreak, the GAVI global vaccine alliance said.

It still remains unclear how the first victim, a male, caught the virus, although past outbreaks were caused by contact with infected bush meat – such as apes.

Congo, whose forests contain the River Ebola, where the disease was first detected in 1976, has experienced many outbreaks and has tended to succeed in containing the spread of the disease.

  1. I know a woman doctor in Gabon, just to the west of the Congo. She says that the countries around Gabon are always getting hit with major, life threatening diseases. As the article states, the Congo has another fear of an ebola outbreak.

Gabon gets outbreaks also, but it is an isolated country from the rest of Africa due to terrain; so disease outbreaks in Africa, especially West Africa, which I think has the highest rate of such diseases, do not usually make it to Gabon. Yet, it has it’s share of problems. Just recently, 1/2 a month ago, she mentioned that two hospitals are on strike in Gabon near their hospital, and so their hospital has had a high influx of patients with low staffing, making the situation way past exhaustion.

She is way out there in the jungle. Jungle food is part of their main diet of all the locals, primates, apparently, are tasty. The politics there is not that great, public schools are toppling, meaning, more and more are not open. The kind of diseases at the hospital in the every day life of the people are this small sample: heart failure, strokes, and diabetes, to tetanus, meningitis, and chicken pox, and the daily battles of TB, HIV, malaria, and
    measles.

  2. he is wrong. It’s both as easy to Kill.. or Control. Depends what they choose.
People are getting dumber every year, anyway
