The US Treasury Department has announced that it is sanctioning Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, describing the Constituent Assembly elections held in the country on Sunday as “illegitimate.”

In an update on Monday, the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said it had added Maduro to its Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. This means that any US-based assets of his have been frozen, and American citizens are forbidden from conducting any business with him.

The following individual has been added to OFAC’s SDN List: MADURO MOROS, Nicolas… President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” the update reads.

According to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the White House considers the elections held in Venezuela to be illegitimate and holds Maduro responsible.

Yesterday’s illegitimate elections confirm that Maduro is a dictator who disregards the will of the Venezuelan people,” Mnuchin said in a statement. “By sanctioning Maduro, the United States makes clear our opposition to the policies of his regime and our support for the people of Venezuela who seek to return their country to a full and prosperous democracy.

Maduro had previously said that US opinion of the Venezuelan election did not matter.

A spokesperson for emperor Donald Trump said that they would not recognize the results of Venezuela’s constituent assembly election,” he told a rally of supporters shortly after Sunday’s vote.

Why the hell should we care what Trump says?” he added. “We care about what the sovereign people of Venezuela say.”

  2. the family…
“Robert Mnuchin was a partner at Goldman Sachs in charge of equity trading and a member of the management committee. He is also the founder of an art gallery in New York City, the Mnuchin Gallery.[8][9] Mnuchin’s great-grandfather, Aaron Mnuchin, a Russian-born diamond dealer who later resided in Belgium, emigrated to the U.S. in 1916.[10]”

  5. Undoubtedly the U.S. intervenes and causes chaos, but the U.S. is also a lightning rod to draw people toward a political person. Syria, Qatar, and Iran, it would seem, had the backing of Russia. If I remember correctly, Russia used to back Venezuela a couple decades ago, but as of now, Venezuela on their own might not be too good for them. South American countries are really taking a blow politically. Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela, well, the first is condemning the IMF. These countries have been drained dry historically. Remember Argentinian’s loan default and Chile’s political, CIA coup. These countries are largely RCC (current Pope from this region)and largely U.S. dominated (Manifest Destiny, Cold War claims – remember Cuba). Also the NAZI’s had some play on that continent and so did Mossad.

  7. Venezuelan president makes US ‘dictator’ list over civil unrest and claims of voter fraud

    http://www.9news.com.au/world/2017/08/03/09/14/venezuelan-president-makes-us-dictator-list-over-civil-unrest-and-claims-of-voter-fraud

    • Voter fraud and they all cry out and claim he is a dictator. Meanwhile nothing about Turkey, and when voter fraud happens in the U.S. or other European countries the word “dictator” is not thrown out there with such force.
It would be best to know who is in the right. Just because a country has a king does not automatically make the country a dictatorship. What if the people due to corruption or whatever did vote for political consolidation? For how long has the U.S. been destabilizing and hindering Venezuela – for a long time – and could that not have anything to do with political instability? Of course.
When the U.S. and EU are all over a country demonizing it for things the U.S. and EU countries are guilty of, then obviously these countries have ulterior motives.
