128 nations sign US declaration on reform of United Nations

Some 128 nations have already signed the United Nations reform proposals presented by Washington, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Monday.

“The response that we’ve had has been nothing short of fantastic: 128 nations have signed the declaration as of this morning,” Haley stated at the opening of a US-sponsored meeting on the reform of the organization.

Following the meeting, the sides may adopt a declaration on broad reforms, proposed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

United States President Donald Trump said at the UN that “bureaucracy” is holding the international body back, saying he supports the efforts by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to find the ways to reform the organization so it could serve the interests of global peace and security.

“In recent years the United Nations has not reached its full potential because of bureaucracy and mismanagement,” Trump said at the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

In the run up to the meeting, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia said he was unsure if Moscow would sign the declaration. He noted that none of the ideas proposed by Washington complied with what had been suggested by the secretary-general, adding that one could not “undertake the UN reform and change the UN through a declaration” and insisting that such a reform should be carried out through an inter-governmental process.

“Neither they [the US] nor any group of like-minded countries can carry out a UN reform without the consent of all member countries,” he pointed out.

There have been several attempts to date to reform the organization to improve its effectiveness in tackling international crises. The initiatives mostly focused on reforming the UN Security Council by increasing number of its permanent members or canceling the veto right. As of now none of them have been successful.

US President Donald Trump has said that the United Nations is not living up to its potential because of bureaucracy and mismanagement.

In his first speech at the UN in New York, he said: “Focus more on people, less on bureaucracy.”

Mr Trump, who has criticised what he sees as a disproportionate contribution by the US, said the UN could become stronger if all worked together.

The US funds 22% of the UN’s regular budget and 28% of UN peacekeeping.

Mr Trump is due to deliver a longer speech when he addresses the UN General Assembly for the first time on Tuesday. He is expected to call for a harder line on North Korea and Iran.

At a special meeting on UN reform on Monday, he encouraged member states to take a “bold stand” to change the UN’s “business-as-usual” approach rather than “be beholden to ways of the past which are not working”.

“I am confident that if we work together and champion truly bold reforms the United Nations will emerge as a stronger, more effective, more just and greater force for peace and harmony in the world.”

is the above..related to the below?

#36 English Standard Version [Bible prophecy]
1 Thessalonians 5:3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

    • Yeap, in terms of Trump and his effort for “peace and security”, it will not happen at his hand. It is a fools errand. As it is written in 1 Thess 5:3, a wider context is the writing in Jeremiah the prophet. Jeremiah is considered to be a bearer of bad news by the false prophets and the unrighteous king of Judah at the time. They did not want to hear his true prophecy by the LORD, because he was warning them of the impeding destruction to come, due to their unbelief, by the hands of the Babylonians. The false prophets, priests, and king at the time kept saying there will be only “peace, peace”:

Jeremiah 6:14, “They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ When there is no peace.”

They did not repent and believe and kept following the ways of Baal; so, the Babylonians were the arm of God used to carry out His wrath upon a people who no longer loved the one Lord God and His people.

All through Jeremiah, the peace, peace when there is no peace is a major theme, but Jeremiah 23 is wonderful because it reveals the coming Christ in Jesus as He is the branch of Righteousness written about in that particular chapter who will call all His people out of all the nations. There will continue to be false teachings that say “peace, peace” – when in reality there is no peace. Even during the time of Christ (most notably see Jeremiah 23) when He is on the throne (which is now), there will be those who falsely proclaim “peace, peace” when warnings and calls for repentance should be the true message just like in the days of Jeremiah.

Remember Christ said, thus He did not say “peace, peace” like the false prophets and priests:

Matthew 24:6, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”

Matthew 10:34-39, “34 [Jesus continues saying] “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”

What is the sword Jesus brings? His sword is the written Word made effective by the Holy Spirit in the lives of sinners who repent and believe:

Hebrews 4:12-13, “12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

Ephesians 6: “17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Revelation 2:12, “12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write,
‘These things says [Jesus] who has the sharp two-edged sword:”

Revelation 19:15, “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.”

He is the Word become flesh, who sent preachers to preach the Word concerning Him, not false preachers who preach “peace, peace” when there is no peace but rather wars and rumors of wars, for people are not to think ‘all is good’ but rather turn to God for their salvation of their soul and body when in the future there will be time of peace when He returns.
