Saudi Arabia grants citizenship to humanoid robot..”Sophia”

Saudi Arabia has become the first country to grant citizenship to a robot. The lucky machine is Sophia the Humanoid, who was designed to look like Audrey Hepburn.
News of Sophia’s citizenship was announced at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

“I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction,” Sophia said in an interview with moderator Andrew Ross Sorkin. “This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship.”

Sophia was created by David Hanson for Hong Kong company Hanson Robotics. Hanson is known for making human-like robots.

Sophia demonstrated her “expressive face,” showing the audience her angry and sad face. “I want to live and work with humans so I need to express the emotions to understand humans and build trust with people,” Sophia said.

When asked whether robots can be self-aware, Sophia responded. “Well, let me ask you this back, how do you know you are human?”

“I want to use my artificial intelligence to help humans live a better life,” she said. “I strive to become an empathetic robot.”

Sophia was asked about the fear that robots could take over, and responded: “You’ve been reading too much Elon Musk and watching too many Hollywood movies. Don’t worry, if you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you.”

this is real..the many questions..not many answers..”sophia”..

I want to live and work with humans so I need to express the emotions to understand humans and build trust with people,” Sophia said.”

  1. like Seek said Bingo!

  2. “Don’t worry, if you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you.”

    fall in line, or else

  3. They should have called it Hilary to emphasise its trustworthiness

  4. Reblogged this on World Peace Forum.

  5. “The higher the volatility in a market, the greater the opportunity for traders.”

Volatility is easily conducted. War, poverty, and starvation.

The following article I found to be informative and an easy read. The article was a “recent interview with AI visionary Ben Goertzel shows Ben’s visions for the future of AI and computer computation.” Mr. Goertzel seems to be the mind behind Sophia and other AI systems worldwide. Here is some of his profile from the article,

“He is the chairman of Artificial Intelligence Society and the OpenCog Foundation, Vice chairman of nonprofit Humanity+, founder and CEO of SingularityNet and cheif scientist at Hanson Robotics.

“He is also currently working on the first AI marketplace powered by Blockchain technology. I’ve been doing artificial intelligence applications in sort of every industry you can imagine from genetics, bioinformatics, and natural language processing. Some national security stuff with the US government, computer graphics, vision processing.

“Goertzel and his company, Aidyia, turned on a hedge fund that makes all stock trades using artificial intelligence—no human intervention required. “If we all die,” says Goertzel, a longtime AI guru and the company’s chief scientist, “it would keep trading.””

    • I posted this before reading the whole article. Apparently the push for AI is tied to the meme of disinformation. In the AI cause, they claim AI will better resolve misinformation in the world. One way of doing so, it may also be in the video, is they claim AI will be smarter than people so people will not be able to manipulate the flow of information in AI.

  6. Also in the article above is the following informative video. The AI cloud will be various AI’s sharing information, making the AI cloud more powerful than the individual AI’s, such as the individual AI Sophia:
