Yusaku Maezawa will be first private passenger on a rocket trip around the moon..lol?

SpaceX says Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa will be first private passenger on a rocket trip around the moon.

The 42-year-old entrepreneur appeared at an event at the space launch company’s headquarters of the space launch company near Los Angeles.

He says it’s been his lifelong dream to go into space.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk says Maezawa will fly to the moon in 2023 aboard a new rocket called the BFR, which is still in development.

The reusable 118-metre rocket will have its own dedicated passenger ship.

The average distance from Earth to the moon is about 382,500kms, and the mission will take four to five days.

No one has been there since an Apollo mission in 1972.

Maezawa founded Japan biggest clothing company, Zozo.

The ‘size free’ concept creates affordable custom fit clothes.

The latest venture is a bodysuit – made in New Zealand – which creates from 3D scans of shoppers’ bodies to ensure the perfect fit.

He’s estimated to be worth $4b.

His first business was selling records and CDs while in a punk band, which became his first mail order company, Start Today.

But Japan’s 14th richest man, according to Forbes, won’t be going to the moon alone on the four-to-five day trip in 2023.

Joining him will be eight yet unnamed artists – Maezawa is a big art fan and started the Tokyo-based Contemporary Art Foundation.

He once spent $153m on a painting of a skull by New York graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Maezawa, who is divorced with one child, wrote on Instagram after the announcement.

  1. Needs to watch those deadly cosmic rays – he could use the old tried and tested Apollo spacesuits in the NASA museum .

  2. Too funny… hell, he might at well go around the Sun too since it’s about the same size as the moon and same distance from Earth. I hope he takes some new pictures of Earth as we only have less then a dozen since 1969 and those are all altered. If it’s a money issue I’ll be happen to send him “GO Pro” Camera.
